Second Photo Shoot

These are the photos that I took on a Nikon camera during my second photo shoot. Since taking photo's in my first photo shoot I have improved my skills and have an even better idea of the lighting, positioning and framing to use and in particular which of these suit my model best and also create a conventional magazine look. These particular photos will be used on my contents page and double page spread. From looking at existing products I had an idea of the look I wanted to achieve and so it was just capturing the perfect pictures for both of these pages.
When doing the shoot I used 3 lights which surrounded my model which prevented the photos from becoming too dark and also stopped shadowing from occurring in many photos. This also allowed me to illuminate her features making the photos look as professional as possible. On these photo's I again used a plain white background because I found this to be a convention on many magazines excluding 'gig' photos and several other examples. This will also make it easier for me when editing because I won't have to edit the background and hopefully this will again give me a professional look as it will prevent it from appearing false. I experimented with many positions but all of which portrayed the Indie Rock style that I was hoping to achieve in my photos. In addition to this I also experimented with a few camera angles and different framing. I generally used a straight on angle however on several photos I used a low angle and also a high angle. This was just for experiment purposes to see if the rebellious side of Indie Rock would be exerted through these angles however I mostly found that the high angle made my model look vulnerable and didn't portray the Indie Rock genre very well however I do feel the low angle shots did portray the Indie Rock genre quite well. My photos used lots of different framing's which included medium close-ups (conventional of magazine front covers), close-ups (conventional of magazine contents pages) and long shots (conventional of magazine double page spreads). I explored all of these frames to give me a range to choose from when I come to making my contents page and double page spread however I will most likely stick to conventions with the photos and use the frames that I previously mentioned for each page.
On this photo shoot I got my model to wear my second planned outfit because I thought that it represented the Indie Rock genre quite well and was quite dark in colour therefore representing the genre well as this is generally what Indie Rock artists wear. My model also had her hair in a wavy/messy look and her make up was quite dark as well which again reflects the Indie Rock genre. The red lipstick she is wearing reflects the daring and dangerous nature of Indie Rock. These photos are exactly the look I was aiming to achieve and I have now managed to collect a range of photos for me to choose from so these photo's may feature on either my contents page or double page spread.
Overall I am really happy with these photos and hopefully after the editing process I can achieve the professional look I am hoping to achieve on my finished pages.
